What Are Square Rubber Fenders
Square fenders are a type of extruded rubber fender, similar to D-Type fenders, but with greater rigidity and impact resistance. They are often chosen for heavier-duty applications where vessels encounter more extreme berthing forces.
Square Fender Types
OLIPORTS provides three standard profiles of square fenders:
SD-Type Square Fender
Square with D-shaped hollow core. Excellent shock absorption and flexibility. Suitable for both horizontal and vertical mounting.

SC-Type Square Fender
Square with round core (. Enhanced energy absorption with lower reaction force. Ideal for lightweight protection.circular bore)

Solid-Type Square Fender
No hollow core, maximum stiffness. Maximized durability and wear resistance. Preferred for heavy-duty workboats and tugboats.

Sizes range from 100×100mm to 500×500mm, with custom lengths, chamfered edges, drilled holes, or pre-curved profiles available for complex mounting. OLIPORTS can deliver custom lengths, beveled ends, pre-drilled holes, and vulcanized corners for curved hull sections.
Mounting Methods for Extruded Square Fenders
Correct installation of square rubber fenders is essential to ensure long-term performance and protection. OLIPORTS supports three mounting options tailored to different fender types and application requirements.
⚠️ All sizes and installation methods can be customized. Final drawings are tailored to your berth design and fender configuration.
External Angle Bracket Fixing for SC-Type & Solid-Type
Ideal for SC-type and solid square fenders, this method uses fillet-welded steel bars to form corner brackets for secure external mounting.
Method A – For SC-Type and Solid-Type Fenders
This method uses fillet-welded angle bars on both sides of the fender. It Applies to: SC-Type (with circular bore) and Solid-Type (solid core fenders).

- Fillet-welded steel angle brackets on both sides
- Minimum 12.5mm spacing from base width
- Drill through the fender and bar; bolt shank above fender base
- Optional steel strip in base or bore
- 🔧 Recommended for: SC-Type (Circular-core) and Solid-Type fenders

Mounting Steps:
- Use metal bars welded into angle brackets on both sides of the fender.
- Keep spacing between bars ≥ 12.5mm from the fender’s nominal base width.
- Drill through both steel and rubber so the bolt shank sits above the base.
- Optional: Place steel strip inside bore to reinforce beneath bolt.
- Use galvanized or non-ferrous materials for bolts.
Internal Steel Strip Reinforcement for SD-Type
Commonly used for SD-type fenders, this method reinforces the inner bore with a steel strip and bolt-through fixing for high-stress applications.
Method B– For SD-Type Square Fenders
A flat steel strip is inserted into the fender’s circular bore.

- Drill bolts: 18″ centers max; screws: 12″ centers
- Enlarged top holes for bolt head clearance
- Overlap into next fender section with at least one bolt
- 🔧 Recommended for: SD-Type (D-core) and Solid-Type fenders
Applies to:
- SD-Type (D-core)
This method is especially suitable for longer fender sections and curved installations.
Mounting Steps:
- Insert a flat metal strip into the D-shaped bore of the fender.
- Drill through both rubber and metal: Bolts at max 18″ intervals, Screws at max 12″ intervals
- Top hole should be enlarged for bolt head clearance.
- Extend metal strip into next fender to ensure overlapping fixation.
- Use galvanized or non-ferrous materials for bolts.
Drilled & Countersunk Fixing for Solid-Type Fenders
Solid square fenders can also be fixed by drilling countersunk holes at regular intervals, ensuring flush bolt integration for smooth surfaces.
Method C– Direct Drilling – For Solid-Type Square Fenders
An alternate method for solid fenders:

- Drill and countersink holes at set intervals (up to 18″)
- Countersink half the depth for bolt head flush-fit
- Clean aesthetic with reliable mounting
Proper anchoring depth, flatness of the quay surface, and fender spacing must be considered during installation. Custom mounting templates and dimension drawings can be provided by OLIPORTS upon request.
