Kenter Shackle Structure Diagram
Two Halves (Body): Interlocking chain links that form the primary load-bearing structure;
Center Chock / Spigot: Aligns and locks the two halves together to prevent lateral movement;
Taper Pin: Secures the assembly via a self-locking tapered design; inserted from the narrow end;
Lead Seal: Prevents the taper pin from loosening due to vibration or impact

How to Open and Assemble a Kenter-Type Jointing Shackle
Many offshore operators ask how to remove a Kenter shackle during maintenance:
- How to Open Kenter Shackle: Use a punch to drive out the lead plug, then hammer out the tapered pin.
- Step 2: Remove the center spacer.
- Step 3: Slide the two half-rings apart to attach the mooring chain.
- Assembly: Follow the steps in reverse, ensuring the tapered pin is fully seated and sealing it with a new lead plug.
Applications of Kenter Shackle
Hip Anchor Chain Connection: oin standard 27.5m anchor chain shackles for merchant vessels, tankers, bulk carriers, and container ships. Kenter shackles are used on anchor chains to ensure a reliable connection and smooth passage through the windlass.
Offshore Mooring Systems: Connect mooring chains for FPSOs, semi-submersible platforms, TLP, and floating structures. Kenter shackles for offshore mooring provide high-strength, detachable connections for deep-water operations.
Engineering & Special Vessels: Heavy-duty connections for dredgers, crane vessels, offshore supply vessels, and naval ships. Kenter shackles are used in mooring systems to support anchor handling, positioning, and emergency release operations.
Maintenance & Replacement: Quickly replace damaged links without cutting the entire chain. The detachable shackle design saves time and costs during offshore maintenance.
